After much thought, and many conversations with residents over the past several months, I have decided to run for Mayor of Pinawa.
Over the past six years serving on Council, I have had the opportunity to learn about our community’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities. I am grateful to the many people who have encouraged me to take this next step.
I believe Pinawa is entering an important period. The decisions we make over the next few years will help shape our community for the next 15 years and beyond. We have opportunities ahead of us, and I believe we can build a future together that is prosperous, sustainable, and welcoming for everyone.
Being your voice is one of the important parts of being Mayor, and that’s why I want to hear from you. Over the coming months, I look forward to meeting with residents, listening to your ideas, and discussing the future of our community. If you see me around town, please say hello and share your thoughts on Pinawa’s future direction.

So proud of you Michael. Young people have such busy lives now a days but it is so important to have their views shared on councils as well. I love that you are making the time for your community and have taken what you’ve learned growing up in a small community and are sharing the importance of it with others. All those years of partaking and helping at events in Dugald/Cooks Creek taught you to see the importance of small towns. Now with kids of your own I know you will pass it on, this is what brings strength, pride and heart to a community. I have no doubt you would do your best as Mayor for the people of Pinawa and make it an even greater. Knowing the man you have become you would have my vote nephew or not. Auntie Sandie

Thank you, Auntie. Yes, growing up in small towns has definitely taught me many lessons and perspectives about what community means. And also, the work of you and all the other volunteers at the Dugald Community Club which is an amazing and invaluable institution for the Municipality of Springfield, shows how the people who care, take action, and participate in their community shape the fabric of the place and the people. The Dugald Convenience Store was also my first experience with work and your entrepreneurship! Now I know how a small town store can be a community hub. Thank you for being an inspiration to me!

Thanks, Colin, for the question and welcome to Pinawa.
I have served on Council for six years and served in many different roles and files over that time. Outside of Council, I am a father, hockey coach, sailor, and community volunteer, and I’ve been involved in a variety of initiatives over the years. I work for Via Rail Canada as an on-board service manager.
My vision for Pinawa is a community that is prosperous, connected, and prepared for the future. I believe we have tremendous assets: our people, beautiful nature, recreation opportunities, schools, and community organizations. By working together and breaking down silos we can create new opportunities for residents, families, businesses, and future generations. I want to grow the local population and the economy to protect our fiscal capacity and maintain our infrastructure.
As for political labels, municipal government is a little different than provincial or federal politics. I approach issues pragmatically. I believe that the LGD should foster a stable business environment that supports entrepreneurs, and I believe in social enterprise, as important ways to grow the economy. I believe that our public institutions, our schools, the library, the hospital, parks, recreation facilities, are vital. I believe in good governance, long-term planning, strong public services, community partnerships, and creating opportunities for people to succeed.
