The votes are counted, and I want to congratulate Rhonda Henschell on being elected Mayor. I wish her and the new council well. Their success is Pinawa’s success.
Thank you, Pinawa. Our community is an amazing place that I love. This place has been good to me and my family, and inspires me to give back.
To everyone who voted: thank you for taking part. To every candidate who put their name forward: thank you for putting yourselves out there. You all did a service to the community.
To my supporters, my campaign team, and my family: you believed something could be better in Pinawa and rallied around me. You are the reason this campaign was positive and fun, and generated so much enthusiasm. Thank you for everything you put into it. My family especially – your unwavering support and belief in me give me courage and strength.
To those who voted for me: thank you for your trust. I am sorry we did not get the result we worked for. My commitment to this community was never conditional on winning an election. This is my home. My kids are growing up here. And I will continue to contribute to our shared project of building a better and brighter Pinawa.
Octavia Butler wrote, “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.” I have thought about that every day since I said it on a stage a few weeks ago. All the conversations and stories with the people of this community have changed me, and will make me a better person.
Thank you.
