First Week on the Job!

Good Day, Pinawa!

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather and the first taste of Summer! Right now I am at my desk with a full cup of coffee, windows open filling my house with fresh air and the peaceful song of backyard birds. It’s a perfect time to write to you all how things are going so far, and how I intend to keep you informed and engaged going forward.

On May 6th, 2021, under witness of my wife and children, the Mayor and Resident Administrator of Pinawa I took my oath of office as a duly elected Councillor for the Local Government District of Pinawa. Being elected as a leader by my peers in this community is an immense honour and I am very grateful for your trust.

I had a lot of reading to do in order to be ready for my first Council meeting on May 11th. Luckily, I had previously signed out copies of the Pinawa by-laws from the Library and from Pinawa.com and studied them during the campaign. My intention was to be ready to go on Day 1 and preparation is always key!

For more information on what was discussed at the May 11th council meeting visit pinawa.com and check out the council highlights section.

It is a pleasure to be working with the other members of Council and the Administration. Every person brings their own unique strengths and ideas to the table. There are always going to be differences of opinion and that leads to debate and discussion, which is great for democracy in Pinawa. While there may be vigorous debate within the Council chambers on any given subject, once a vote is cast and a decision is made, it is the decision of all of council. I believe all members of council share a commitment to improving the lives of Pinawanians.

Reaching out to my constituents is important to me, and using this platform is one tool for me to do that. However, for information on the day to day concerns, or decisions of Council, Residents should continue to reach out to the LGD office and visit Pinawa.com for official information. You may of course reach out to me or any member of council. This site will be a place to connect and share ideas, philosophies, and vision. Also, positive and fun news about anything Pinawa. I will also be asking for comments from residents on different subjects from time to time as a way to stay connected as your representative.

Writing is one of my creative outlets. People have told me how they have enjoyed reading this blog and looking forward to the next post. That’s great. I’m happy to continue to use this platform as a way to connect with my friends and neighbours in our great community.

Be well,

Michael King
